Dr. Lichtman is available for comprehensive evaluation and treatment planning. She has extensive experience diagnosing a wide range of psychiatric disorders and personal problems including depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, Bipolar Disorder, substance abuse disorders, grief, and psychotic disorders. Initial consultations include a comprehensive interview and diagnostic assessment as well as recommendations about best treatments. She will consider a full range of factors including biochemical, genetic, psychological, environmental, and behavioral factors that may be contributing to your problem.
Dr. Lichtman is available for ongoing medication management. She believes in working closely with the patient to evaluate all aspects of their experience taking medication. She believes that medication is most effective when patients know why they are taking a certain medication and know what to expect, including side effects, withdrawal, and short or long term benefits. For the most part, patients tolerate medications well and have a positive experience. However, there are sometimes situations where people are prescribed medications they know little about and have experiences they have no way of evaluating. Dr. Lichtman works closely with patients to ensure they will understand their reactions and not feel confused by the experiences they are having.
Dr. Lichtman completed a 2 year fellowship in psychotherapy in addition to her medical training. She is uniquely qualified to provide integrated medication management and psychotherapy. Integrated treatment is the gold standard for treatment for problems such as mood disorders, anxiety, and personality disorders. Her approach is psychodynamic which means she will explore the patients past history, relationships, and experiences to understand how they are viewing and interacting with the world today. For patients, this often means that they will experience growth in their sense of self, interactions with those closest to them, and their own goals and life views. Dr. Lichtman is also able to make referrals in the case that CBT or DBT would be more effective therapy modalitiies.
